Income Tax Filing Prices?

I file peoples taxes as a side job every tax season. I am getting more people ever year so I am trying to figure out how or what to base my prices off of. Anyone have any suggestions?

$75 would be pretty fair, as that’s just a bit more than the software that one can buy and do it themselves. Or, you could do $50 or a percentage of their refund, whichever is higher.

    too high do your own

Use a sliding scale based on AGI.
Consult your local H&R Block and compete with them.

I normally pay about $80. Mine is very basic.

10 bucks for a simple EZ filing
anything after that with itemized deductions…25-50 bucks for each family. I’m paying 50 bucks for a "guanreteed" no audit.. if people think that’s too much.. they can go buy terbo tax… Military and DOD Employees get Turbo Tax free.

I’d check around and see what some widely known tax preparers and local CPAs charge for a simple return and gage yours accordingly. Your time is worth a lot, the use of your computer, people coming to your house, software, the fees it costs to send in the forms all come into play. I do my son and mine on the computer so I don’t know what the going rate is. Some of the returns can get complicated, so bases your fees on the complexity. Good luck. Be careful, though, because you may bear some liability.

5 to 10 dollars per page, plus 10 to 20 dollars per hour of your time.
