One step at a time, people are so stupid they don’t see where it’s going. If Obama revealed his true plans up front you would be outraged but you are willing to accept higher taxes on tobacco.

The states raise taxes on things like cigarettes and then the cigarette companies jacked up their rates by five dollars on a carton of cigarettes.
So, even though I don’t like Obama, I won’t let him take the credit for hiking up cigarette taxes.

I love it when leftists assess greater "sin taxes", the most regressive of taxes. No offense to poor people, but when the choice is mommy and/or daddy’s cigarettes or new shoes for the kids, guess what comes first?
Yes and he has violated smokers rights he can not single out a certain group or individuals to pay for health care.
If he raised taxes on alcohol or any form of food, drug, luxury item he is still violating your civil rights.
If he wants national health care then it would be every taxpayers duty to pay taxes.
This is pure capitalism and in direct violation of all citizens rights and if we let him get away with it we are opening our selves up to more of our freedom of choice to be violated.
Yes a national lottery would raise money, every one would participate, but single out an individual group is illegal and unconstitutional.

Booze is perhaps a reasonable comparison, because like tobacco it harms health. Porn and lotto tickets have not been shown to do so. Raising taxes on harmful substances seams a fitting way to fund health care; it helps people be healthier on both ends.
Taxing a luxury item like tobacco is not taxing any person, since no person has to buy it.
